Re: University of Texas 2011
to give you some reference i qualified for an LSAC fee waiver and UT gave me $13k (total, not per year) in need-based aid. I'm in-state as well.

Re: University of Texas 2011
My EFC was something like $1000. They sound stingy but when you add up the savings from in-state tuition and the $15k scholly they gave me, it'll cost me $45-50k. Not quite as good as readinmonotone's situation, but I'll take it.

Countbizaller: 40k of debt for Texas is actually pretty excellent. Is that tuition debt alone, or including expenses (rent, food, books, etc.)?
Was the 13k in need based aid you received a nonfederal subsidized loan? Or a Perkins? Or was it a grant/scholarship?
I'm confused and anxious about all these looming promissory notes, so I hope you'll excuse the prying.

I'm just paying tuition. My wife will cover our living expenses while I'm in school. The need-based aid ($13k) was all grants from the state and the school. After that and the $15k merit scholly, the rest is your standard subsidized and non-subsidized stafford loans.

Re: University of Texas 2011
Ah, lucky you!
So grants are essentially the same thing as scholarships, except that you get them because of need rather than merit? And there's a lower GPA requirement for them to renew, if there's one at all?
Are grants usually pretty much guaranteed every year, or is it something like "you received this grant for 1L, and you may or may not receive it next year, depending on availability of funds, changes in your need status, and changes in state/university policy" ?

I think the only thing that can affect grants are changes in your EFC from year to year. Other than that, there's no GPA requirements and I'm pretty sure they don't yank them in the middle of your schooling if there's a change in school policy or funds. They just don't award new ones to new students.

I haven't been reading this thread at all....butt I've been keeping up with the UVa waitlist thread and they posted on their website today that they won't be making any offers at this time after the last deposit blah blah blah. And I want to buy a condo in the upcoming weeks so I doubt I'll wait it out.

Well, cool, because we're awesome. UVa is a bunch of frat boy sell-outs. I'm sticking to that.

Good to see you settled on UT cc. And monotone's right. We are all very awesome, just not vocal on the boards. Too busy being awesome in the real world.
And I'm very pumped about getting down to Austin and hanging out with Bevo.
