PSLF Payments & Changing Jobs

Post by Nosso » Tue Apr 04, 2017 9:37 am

Hello,

I'm currently clerking, and my clerkship finishes at the end of August. In either late September or early October, I will be starting my next gig. So I will be technically unemployed when I go to make my loan payments under PAYE as part of PSLF (my next gig is also a public service job).

My question is whether there is a way for me to get my payments in Sept. and, potentially, Oct. to count towards my 120 payments needed to get the loan forgiveness. Otherwise, if I make these payments, I'll essentially be throwing that money away (make a small dent on interest without moving towards forgiveness). If there isn't a way to get these payments to count, can I ask for a deferment for those two months?

Thanks in advance.

I think a short deferment is the only way.
