You should ask the schools you're considering to turn into real law schools instead of scams. But since that's not happening: don't go.

I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt and assuming you're just horribly optimistic/ignorant about legal job outcomes and debt repayment, but if this is trolling, it's not very good.

don't think of a $5k scholarship as the school giving you money.

think of it as the school being so gracious as to let you pay them only $45k a year instead of $50k a year.

that begs the question - is Cooley worth $45k a year?

This is just generally good advice and is a mindset that I wish more people had. When someone says, I'm getting $25k from x school... no, you're getting a discount and paying $25k instead of $50k. They're not giving you money, they're taking less money from you. They're giving you a legal education, not money.

This is what OP said in a different thread, so I'm assuming his answer is yes.

You should spend a year working and spending your nights studying for the LSAT.

You're applying way too late for anywhere to give you significant scholarship.

Charlotte wont even exist in a year, they can't get federal loans. Arizona summit was just put on probation today, in line with what happened to charlotte. TJ and Cooley are probably next.

You should post a screenshot/picture of your admission letter, not necessarily the whole thing, but just a snippet. People here are so i the T14 bubble that they need some help knowing that you're being honest.

1) you don't seem to understand that there's a sizable chance that Cooley (and a number of other schools) offers NO path to a legal job. that's a real-life, fucked-up truth about the legal profession.

2) there are no reasons why you have to attend law school this fall, Cooley or otherwise.

3) The advice on how much to negotiate and how much is contingent on 2 numbers. You're focusing on the cost of attendance but you're ignoring the cost/ability to repay. You could have a $30,000 scholarship from Cooley but you're still looking at $100k debt after graduation and an income of $0 to pay it off.

DON'T GO TO LAW SCHOOL WITH A 138 ON THE LSAT

do not.

there is no reason you can't study and retake.

you are throwing away your entire future if you go to law school in the fall.

holy cow

I mean, I don't get it. If you remove law firms with less than 10 attorneys, including solos, only 8% of cooley grads last year got full time, long term, bar passage required jobs. That's so low!

Thing is, you can make a life for yourself at a small shop if you want, there's nothing wrong with that. The problem comes in when you have a mortgage sized debt you can't discharge in bankruptcy and you can't even afford to pay the interest on. you would make more money doing literally anything else. the store managers at the dunkin donuts you get your coffee at will make more money than you. and they get free donuts!

We're all saying don't go to Cooley, and you can dismiss us as elitist or hive-minded or whathaveyou, and you can still go to Cooley, whatever, but you can't dig yourself into a $180k+ hole. you will die in it.

Even a full ride isn't worth the opportunity cost of spending 3 years of your life in school without a good shot at the job you want upon graduation. What do you see as your most likely employment outcome from Cooley? You don't need to be T13 or bust, but at a minimum I think you should be looking at schools where most students become lawyers, and that place well locally. If you're determined to become a lawyer taking a year and getting your LSAT into the 150s could open a lot more doors.
