Okay, I'm not really homeless, but I don't have a permanent residence. I use my parents' house for all my paperwork, but don't live there (and haven't since I was 18.) I didn't make any income this year, but I believe I still need to file 1040's and state taxes - I just don't know what to put as my place of residence on the forms, or even what state to use!
The reason this is an issue is because I'm currently considered independent by the law school I'll be attending, but I'm worried that if I list my parents' house I'll lose that independence on a technicality. Does anyone have advice?

I don't think listing your parents' address will in any way tell your LS that it is your parents' home. It will just be an address to them - numbers, a street, a city.
