Can I just say I love this group? I don't post much but I love seeing the positivity. The URM section of TLS is like a unicorn compared to the rest of the forum.

So many bullies. Like okay cool, you have a 4.0, but do you have friends...?

Anyone else worried about future classmates, based on behaviour on this forum?

I am definitely worried about the competitive nature of law school (thanks curve) and lack of collegiality I have observed not only on TLS but also by anecdotal items shared with me as if everyone has one up each other.

Guys, we all can eat. This thread is good about showing that!

TLS does have a nerdy vibe which can sometimes come off pompous without meaning to to be fair. Everyone here is pretty intelligient so it doesnt matter. My 2 cents

Does anyone have thoughts on applying to schools you're way below both 25th's but received fee waivers for? Just got one for U Chicago and it was no where on my radar..

Definitely do it! This was the case for one of my acceptances and I am very glad I applied

I actually looked into this yesterday. Basically, certain schools do that to appear more selective. I have friends who received fee waivers for T14 schools, but were scoring in the 150's for the LSAT, so almost a guaranteed ding. (Yes I know there are sometimes exceptions, but only sometimes).

Shockingly, Columbia admitted a 150 LSAT score last year. Jeb Butler from admissions told me this, so it's not a troll account lol.

In short, if you think you're a good candidate based on your experiences, regardless of numbers, I'd apply wide - but it's not necessarily a positive to receive a few waiver.

I applied to quite a few schools I most likely have no shot at getting into. I had fee waivers too so I say if you can afford the $35 reporting fee then why not? It's worth a shot.

There were several schools I applied to last cycle solely because they gave me fee waivers. Several were T14. A bunch then dinged me, but others admitted me with respectable $.
The fee waivers certainly don't mean the schools are ready to admit you, but they do mean that the school isn't ready to say "no". If you can afford the $35 CAS fee then do it. Sure, they may reject you, but don't do that job for them.

You will find your community in law school just like you did on here in this thread. People can be jerks in law school and people tend to be high strung, especially in the beginning, but people will chill out and you will find your friends.

Got my Georgetown acceptance letter yesterday! It was dated 12/22.

No interview, submitted my app 11/25, went compete 12/7. Waiting on some more decisions before I commit to any school.

Good luck to everyone still waiting! Just try to be patient and stay positive in the meantime.

I also think that as much as we try to invoke emotion in our posts, some of our posts may be misinterpreted. We will probably find a great community, a gathering of great minds who will walk with humility. Perhaps we will make friendships that will last a lifetime.

Congrats! Great school, great town. Be prepared to battle for $$. My sister-in-law attended and found that battle to be very challenging. Are you in at any peer schools?
Also, love your name. I met my wife on the Obama '08 campaign so it's got a special place in my heart.

Thank you! I'm pumped about this. I have acceptances from Duke and UCLA at the moment. I haven't heard back from any other schools. I think I'll see a lot of movement this month.

That's awesome. The campaign trail is special.

Gonna ask on here too, but does anyone who applied or is applying to UCLA’s achievement fellowship know if it’s also double spaced and 12-pt font?

I sent mine in double spaced, 12 pt font. I figured that they would want the same thing they asked for in the personal statement (except for just 1 page).

Is anybody reaching out to BLSA/respective affinity group members at any schools? I figured since they sent out the students' emails they'd be willing to answering questions but I just wanted to see so I wasn't the only one lol.

Also, what kind of things are you asking, I'm obviously wanting to get info about how BLSA has helped through law school and the culture of the org, etc. but how weird is it to ask a random student "so, what are race relations like on campus?"

I reached out to the Latino Law Student Org President of one of the schools and asked all of this. I didn’t feel awkward asking and they didn’t seem awkward getting real with me either.
