I got into Berkeley and NYU over the past few days and I'm absolutely shocked and I still don't believe it. It feels amazing that the adcomms see and support the vision I outlined in my essays.

I know there has been a lot of other movement for many other URMs and I just wanted to congratulate each of you, y'all inspire me <3
Aye!!! Cue the twerk team!!! That's a big deal. Congratulations!!!

Someone told me that this is usually true and happens in Jan/Feb, not time to freak out yet
~ Prays this is true after consistently missing every JS1 wave ~

Hard af same here
How many URMs have gotten JS1s so far?

No JS1 or NYU love (CC interview requests though). Trying to tell myself that it's okay until January is over.

Bumping the above, have any URMs received JS1s? (No interest in joining the ongoing debate, but it would be helpful to indicate if you are AA/MA/PR/etc. if you received a JS1)
I had a JS1 in November! LSAT is median, GPA a teeny bit below median. I’m AA.

Had a JS1 in early Nov, below both 25ths. AA and Central American

Congratulations to every person here getting into law schools!
And for those of you who are still waiting on your first acceptance, WE GOT THIS! >:D

As someone with a lower gpa (3.56), I’m wondering if there’s any data on that. Any rejections or waitlists??? I think all this information is valuable and could be turned into something positive if anyone is willing to share. Unfortunately, I haven’t applied to a school yet and won’t be able to until January when I get my first lsat score...(so I can’t share anything -_- ), but I want to know for what schools I should be extra careful with in terms of the components of my application. I’m retaking the lsat in february, and I’m still working on “Why X”, diversity statement and personal statement essays.

What do you think made your application weaker or what did it lack? I’m planning to apply to Loyola Los Angeles, UCLA, USC, Michigan, UVA, UC Berkeley and WUSTL
If you’d be more comfortable just pm’ing me, please do!

So far I've been waitlisted at GW and Iowa. I worked very hard on my PS, DS, and supplemental essays—I think everyone does. I'm not sure people on here would submit "weak" essays. However, if I have to say something was weak or lacking, it's my LSAT, a 164, or my GPA, 3.4. As the mantra on TLS goes, retake until you get a score that meets or exceeds your potential/desired goals. I will also probably retake in February or June.

Hello,

May I ask what specific URM group(s) you identify with?

I would say

1. Apply early, it is a strategy that works in our favor.
2. If you're a URM with borderline numbers write both the DS and Why X essays, I believe both are required to push you over the edge and are useful.
3. Take your time putting your application together, I took a year to make it the best possible.
4. a) Especially if you don't perform on standardized tests well, try your hardest and then thank yourself for what you eventually get. b) If you have the opportunity to retake for better scores and you believe you can get it and have the time, go for it!
5. Do your research on schools/programs/professors...just try to read and ask others as much as you can.
6. Have a team of reviewers, I asked about 5-6 people (my best friends and my mom) to review my essays and they were literally so helpful, esp for the supplemental essays. But there will be instances to go with your gut and disagree with their review, trust yourself.
7. Ask for letters of recommendation like 4-5 months early if possible.
