MA 162/3.7+ T25

Hey everyone!

I was hoping you could all help me gauge my chances at T25 schools, and more specifically California schools.
  • 162 on first take
A gpa just above 3.7 from a top 20 undergrad
    MA Male
    Average softs
I'm definitely considering retaking as I feel I could have (and should have) done better on logic games where I got a -7. As I stand now though, what would my chances be for T25 schools?
Thanks!

I would say that your chances are pretty low, though it is possible. I would definitely consider retaking if t25 is your goal, especially if you want scholarship money. Use LawSchoolNumbers to check out your stats, I think it'll definitely help you see why a retake could be beneficial. Good luck! :D

I disagree with the poster above, 162 with a 3.7 as a URM gets you in at USC and probably UCLA. However you should retake in September. If the 162 was on this past June test then getting those 7 questions right on LG would have gotten you a 166. That would defiantly boost your chances at Berkley or at least help get you some decent $ at UCLA.

Agreed. 162 would likely get you in to some top 25s, but retaking and getting a few extra points would result in a huge scholarship bump at those schools. Definitely go for the retake, and good luck!

Also disagree with the first reply.

You should apply to every T14. There's a poster here going to Stanford with a 3.7 and 164. I think LSAT is over-emphasized for URMs because GPA is more important. Schools will forgive a lower LSAT, they're far less inclined to forgive a lower GPA. Of course, if you think you can improve on the LSAT, why not take it again? But you'll have options with your current stats.

Thanks for all the replies!
I would love to attend USC if it wasn't sticker, so USC with $$ is my target.

The 162 was for this June. The tight curve was tough and I'm sure I could have prepared better for the LG(especially considering I realized how easy they were). Thanks for all the input, I'm definitely going to retake September. I just wanted to get a better sense of where I currently stand right now.

USC, as a private school with not a ton of diversity, may offer a decent sized scholarship. Overall, USC gives out some fairly generous financial aid and is often willing to match $$ from similarly situated schools. A few extra points on the LSAT could put you close to a full ride.
