AA male 3.31 GPA 164 LSAT where should I apply?

Post by Southend97 » Wed Mar 08, 2017 1:14 pm

Really want to Chicago or Penn but I doubt I would get in. Interested in clerking or big law. Applying during the 17-18 cycle. What schools in the t-25 could I get a significant amount of money from?

It's really hard to chance someone based off two numbers. I mean, you can look at the Black and Law School thread: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 4&t=195443 and compare your stats with Chicago and Penn to see what the medians are this year.

Your softs - whether or not you've been working and what you've been doing, what leadership positions you've held, if you have won any nationally competitive fellowships, know any languages, first generation/immigration, and/or have some interesting life experiences - also count. Your geographic location matters because some schools will want to know what your ties are to a region and why you want to practice law there.

You'll find people with your stats and lower who got into these places (a friend of mine who is AA got into Chicago with a 15x) but no amount of data here could accurately predict your chances. That said, do not let the numbers keep you from applying. You most certainly have a chance.

I will say for GPA restrictive schools like Penn you might be up against more of a challenge, but that isn't to say you wouldn't get in. Non-AA URM here with a 3.9x who got WLd at Penn so, anything really can happen.

Consider Harvard, especially now that you're applying in the year where it begins its pilot program of accepting the GRE in lieu of the LSAT. Take the GRE and see how you do. Can't hurt!

You should blanket the entire t-13. I believe your chances are pretty good at the t-6.
