I don't believe that this year's application process is the same. Also, there's only one person conducting interviews, so I don't think that she will be re-interviewing.beantheshadow wrote:Finished my interview earlier! I think it went great! Pretty excited.
Questions I was asked
Why Law?
Why SEO is a good fit?
Describe two partner firms you'd want to work for?
Name a time you've made a difficult decision, what was your thought process and the outcome?
Feel free to PM for any additional details.
From past threads I read it looks like for those admitted there is usually an additional interview? Is that correct?

Re: 2016-2017 SEO Corporate Law Applicants (Summer 2017)
Just had mine. My questions were the same as everyone elses + name your worst failure and what you learned + where do you see your law career (after asking Why LAW).
My interviewer mentioned they are more interested in WE than they used to be.
Did anyone else get the sense that this is just a preliminary step? Like it matters far less than LSAT + deposited school rank? My interviewer seemed to be just reading off a list of questions.

It seems like the schools you get accepted to matter the most. My interviewer said that the firms often request only people who will be attending certain schools. I'm assuming some firms only request the most "prestigious" schools.bunney_j wrote:Just had mine. Agreed. I don't think LSAT matters (minus the fact that high LSAT -> better school) lolAJ1010 wrote:It seems like the schools you get accepted to matter the most. Do you guys know how popular of a first choice Chicago is? I got accepted to UChicago on 1/20 and I want to be in Chicago this summer and if the price is right at UChicago in the fall. I'm assuming getting into UChicago bodes well for my application since Chicago is my top choice city, but I wasn't sure if Chicago firms would want HYS folks over UChicago, especially if Chicago is a particularly competitive city

Also Re:resume it MUST be one page. Interviewer said firms won't look at them if not. She was basically like fix it now, so in case you get in you won't have less than 24 hours to fix before we send it to firms.

I'm sure you'll get it. My friend is at Northwestern now, and outside CHI and WUSTL she said there's not too much competition in the area..notorious_mig wrote:Do you guys know how popular of a first choice Chicago is? Are you a k-jd? I'm 5 years out of school so fitting my info into one page will be tough. Just wondering if there's a 1pg max for people who've been out for a while...brinicolec wrote:Thanks for updating us on that! Kind of - I graduated a year early to go to my M.A. program and then will be straight into my JD. I asked her about fitting all my research on there + publications + my two schools and she said basically cut out clubs, descriptions, research that's not relevant and that firms won't even read it if it's over a page/they won't send it out20171lhopeful wrote:Are you a k-jd? just hit submit for each section of your profile (scroll to bottom of a section). To verify that you did submit everything, you should see a time stamp for every section when you're looking at the app overviewlula43 wrote:I'm a little confused by the application. Thanks for the heads up. Although now I'm worried that I won't be competitive since my resume is so clearly PI focused.bunney_j wrote:Kind of - I graduated a year early to go to my M.A. program and then will be straight into my JD. Re: 2016-2017 SEO Corporate Law Applicants (Summer 2017)
I really think, as people upthread have suggested, School prestige + location + GPA + LSAT matters. I know people say LSAT doesn't, but I feel like if firms see the LSAT and GPA, they'd be more likely to choose top numbers. Past threads mentioned a t14 and even t6 school matters more than anything else.20171lhopeful wrote:Thanks for the heads up. I wouldn't worry. I have a lot of PI/international stuff that's not corporate at all too.

Are any old alum of SEO lurking and have an idea about placement? I'm seriously considering Cornell mostly bc of it's employment stats and placement in big law. Are New York firms that partake in SEO partial to Cornell at all? Like over higher ranked schools like UVA/NU?
