Penn wait listing AA applicants
GPA: 3.31
LSAT: 161
Attend a large public TX university (not UT Austin)
I plan or retaking the LSAT in February to try to get at least 164, however I've heard that Penn waitlists a lot of qualified AA applicants because they assume we will accept an offer at a better school. Is this true? Penn is my #1 school choice and I don't want to be waitlisted because of a high LSAT score or something

I mean as it stands you are a pretty decent long shot for admittance anyway, so who knows. If you get waitlisted, then it makes sense given your numbers.

I'm not sure your stats would qualify you for that type of waitlist issue. Your GPA and LSAT are both below their 25ths. I understand the concept of the AA push, but your GPA is still considered quite low. If you do get waitlisted, I don't think their hesitance would be due to "high LSAT score".

Penn appears to be splitter friendly. I don't think you would get waitlisted for a high LSAT. If you did, it might be because of your gpa

Yeah I know both my GPA and LSAT are below their 25th percentiles but I have much more control over my LSAT score than my GPA. On recent PTs I've gotten between 163-165
@20171lhopeful yeah I definitely plan to write a why penn essay, would you mind PMing me your stats? Not just LSAT and GPA but kind of school attended, extracurriculars, WE, whether youre a URM or not? It would be greatly appreciated! Our stats are similar and I got into Penn. FWIW I wrote a why penn

Is there precedent for Penn going sub 3.0? (I have a 2.9)
If so, how high of an LSAT? Would assume 170+

I actually know of someone one who had pretty much similar stats as you who was admitted to Penn. I believe she had maybe like 2 points higher on the lsat than you did. However, this was a cycle when I previously applied but decided to get my Masters degree first.
