Thanks! My advice would be to apply early! Also make sure your diversity statement and personal statement are excellent. Also get your letters of recommendation from professors that know you very well. People that you have had multiple classes with and done well in those classes or if you have been have been in any clubs with them. Make sure your personal statement says who you are and you enjoy it. Don't start with something like "all through my life I have faced the soft bigotry of stereotypes." You want your personal statement to be interesting and personal of course. Just write one you really like yourself and have a professor look over it. Also be patient. I had a 3.426 and a 156 and got into my target school. You can do this!brinicolec wrote:Welcome, welcome. Lol.chewinggum wrote:I've been stalking this forum for months and can I just say congrats to everyone on their cycles! I plan on taking the June lsat and applying as early as possible 2017-2018 cycle - early as in trying to submit the first day possible haha!
I don't have the best gpa but I'm testing pretty well so fingers crossed and shoot a prayer up! My dream school is NYU and a shot at BL! Any advice that anyone could offer is super helpful! Female AA - 2 years out UG!
Big shouts to Mr Chukes and brinicolec - I've been following you two and am so happy for you two! Whoop!
My best advice would be +180 to what dietcoke said and also, really try to make the rest of your app immaculate since you say your GPA is lower. I don't think I had a super powerful PS, but some people do and swear it's what got them admitted!
And thank you! That's so sweet!

I'm still waiting on that money from Mich, but it looks like I'm going to Emory? Guess I get to live in Atlanta 3 years earlier than I expected.

I think it's funny that I applied as a guide for next year in the beginning. I was trying to see what schools would take me. I never imagined I'd actually get into one of my target schools with money. Anyone else think to themselves, "man I really made it." Dreams really do come true guys. We are going to top law schools.

So as a disclaimer to people - People still get accepted/interview requests to T13/14 schools late.
I just got 1 acceptance and an interview. I'm in shock.

I'm probably not as scrutinizing as I should be, so my past apartment hunts haven't been bad, they've all worked out well too. Knock on wood.Mr_Chukes wrote:Tell me about it. Places go so fast in LA as well.Hogwartsexpress wrote:apartment hunting is brutal

I'd say Georgetown is my favorite actually- because being around black people is a HUGE priority for me. As well as living in an area with many middle and upp class African Americans as well. An d being African, DMV area has a ton af African/African American culture, and for my out of classroom sanity thats really important.
But MIchigan is vary vary close to my heart, so im gonna do everything i can to go back home.

If they do, my acceptances would suggest it's relatively low.chewinggum wrote:Does anyone know if NYU/Columbia have gpa floors?

DC is pretty diverse as a city, but Georgetown itself is not so much (URMs clock in at around 25%; the 2016 entering class fared a little better at 27%). I ended up deciding on a school other than GULC, but as someone who did their undergrad at Georgetown I just wanted to point it out. DC is an amazing city, but Georgetown could do more to diversify its student body imo.Hi-So - ArshavinFan wrote:No effing clue. Man. Im still WL at two schools so idk. Oh yeah but i mean - what school in the T13/T14 has more numbers of URMs than GT?
Percentage wise doesnt bother me- all of the other T13s are quite small barring Columbia and Harvard, and NYU, and once you start talking about elite institutions; URM arent likely to be that sizable in the overall pop.
I honestly would just like to be close to several African restaurants tbh

Re: URM 2016-2017 Cycle Thread
It's just that both percentage and the number of URMs contribute to how a school feels. A higher percentage of URMs within a small student body may give off a different vibe compared to a relatively larger number of URMs but within a much larger student body. Regardless, I think you would really enjoy GULC should you decide to go, but I think the community you're looking for may lay more outside the school than within it (aside from BLSA, which should not be discounted).Hi-So - ArshavinFan wrote:Oh yeah but i mean - what school in the T13/T14 has more numbers of URMs than GT?

Speaking of restaurants if anyone has ever seen/ever sees a Paraguayan restaurant in the US please hit me up IMMEDIATELY I have never seen one and I would do a lot of regrettable/illegal things for some chipa and mbeju
This is a real post like I know we're an irrelevant country and the odds are slim but I would so love if I could find A Taste Of The Patria in the US
That is all thank you we can stop talking about food now and return to law things
