Record of my law school admissions process

Post by 18488 » Thu Sep 27, 2007 6:04 pm

Started powerscore class in Memphis, TN on August 4, 2007, while helping my girlfriend move into new her home in grad school.
--instructor was exceedingly arrogant, and seemed to genuinely wish he wasn't there.
After four weeks, came back to Cincinnati; continued powerscore course.
--instructor definitely superior, but was often 20, 30, 45 minutes late--even cancelled class one night b/c he hadn't finished a deposition that was due the next day.

nonetheless, have seen significant increase in scores (not sure whether to thank powerscore's books, teachers, or just the repetition.

log of scores so far:

157
158
163
162
164
160
177
164
167
168
171
173
164
163
166
167
167
167

The variation certainly seems to peter out towards the end--interestingly at exactly 10 points higher than my initial diagnostic, which powerscore advertises as their average. It's disappointing that my highest score happened so early in the process--makes every subsequent test a letdown--if only that could've been the real test. but all my 170+ scores are from tests older than five years, before the scales tightened up.

Considering applying to the following (in rough order of preference):

Duke University
UCLA
Cornell
Vanderbilt University
USC
Boston University
Washington University in St. Louis
Emory University
George Washington University
University of Georgia
Georgia Sate University

9/29/07

Got up at 5:30, ran a mile, did 50 pushups, took a long hot shower, ate a bagel with smoked salmon with some friends from my prep course, then rushed to campus to take the LSAT. There was one grouping game that was probably quite easy, but I just didn't seem draw inferences from it, so I just guessed on two/three of six questions from that game, which may make a large difference, since the games section overall didn't seem extremely challenging (usually leading to harsher scoring scales). I shouldn't bother to speculate on my score or performance for now, though--I'll find out soon enough.

finally got score--166. the seemingly infinite delay is over.

I got a perfect reading comp score--first time ever.

but I missed 9 on games, including ALL of the second game--a bit unusual for me. usually missed 4-6 on games in practice.

on arguments, did my average: -2 and -3, respectively.
