IU-Indy, Maurer, or Cincy

Post by loopman8 » Thu Jan 24, 2019 11:00 pm

Hi all,

Needing some advice. Received full ride at IU-Indy, almost a full ride (have to pay 6k/year) at Cincy, and received about 1/2 off tuition at Maurer.

I want to work in Indiana ultimately, particularly in one of Indy's large firms. Maybe clerk for a judge first.

Leaning towards IU-Indy because its free, but would like to hear some thoughts/advice...

Thanks!

I'm not familiar with the market in Indiana but check this website out - https://www.lstreports.com/- and do your research on these schools. It seems that Maurer might offer relatively better prospects.

Hey OP if those are your only options, with your stated goals I'd pick Maurer for sure. McKinney grads do get Indy biglaw but they're top of the top of the class it seems. Cincy does okay in Indy isn't going to be better than either of the IUs.

Any offers from schools ranked a little closer to Maurer that you could use for negotiation purposes to get more than 50% off sticker?

The correct answer is Maurer for free. What's your current LSAT/GPA?

100% retake. You should be going to Maurer for free, if not a top school.

Oh hello with a 3.8x GPA you should not be going to McKinney in any universe. Retake and sit this cycle out, you'd be doing yourself a big disfavor not to

Thirding this. OP, please don't waste your 3.8x GPA on anything less than a T20 (at minimum).

I know that they're more geared towards Chicago than Indy but I'd still think Notre Dame should be in your sights as an option if you get your LSAT up. Other great and attainable options with an LSAT bump include Maurer for free (maybe with a stipend if they do that?) and WUSTL for free.

Yeah, you should be aiming for half ride or more at somewhere like Northwestern or Cornell

Agree with the others. I’m a Maurer grad and I’m licensed in both Ca and TX. Retake the lsat and get Maurer for free if you’re interested in the school. I’m not a huge advocate of Maurer, it’s ok but nothing exceptional.
