MIDWEST: Take the Money? What's the Employment Outcome?

Post by RangerDanger96 » Tue Mar 27, 2018 7:32 pm

I am comparing a full ride at a Top 30 public Mid-west school (UW, UMN, Iowa, Illinois) v. 1/2-3/4 scholarships at private schools (BC, BU, USC, ND, WashU).

I want to work with businesses or work in Corporate law. It does not have to be "Big Law"; it could be as simple as a firm in Minneapolis/KC/St. Louis/Milwaukee/Des Moines/etc. - working with small businesses, tax planning, estate, etc. I want to get a better grasp of peoples' experiences who went to large public schools (like those listed above) that were able to get good mid-west firm positions in those fields instead experiences/odds in "Big Law" in Boston, LA, etc. (as I'm aware of the Big Law outcomes at those schools v. debt) which are already all over TLS.

How were you able to get a position with a firm in a major Midwest city (class rank?/networking type?/class breakdown?/etc.)?

What are the salary distributions in major Midwest cities?

What are your thoughts on your experience at a large public Mid-West school?

Thank you for any comments/information.
