How much does name matter? Full ride vs higher rated
I need advice. Admitted for a full ride at FIU vs higher rated UF with only 25% scholarship. How much does the Alma mater really matter in terms of getting a job post grad? Bar passage and employments rates are on par per Law School Transparency.

You should retake. UF is fine if you go for free and you want to practice in Florida. FIU is not a good school and will not likely lead to you ever working as a lawyer.
Retake for more money at UF if small law/local govt in Fl is your goal.

2/3rds of 2016 grads from FIU had LT, FT bar passage required jobs. https://www.lstreports.com/schools/FIU/sparkytrainer wrote:You should retake. UF is fine if you go for free and you want to practice in Florida. FIU is not a good school and will not likely lead to you ever working as a lawyer.

I would also not put UF in the category of schools that are free or bust.

What do you want out of the degree? What type of career are you imagining with a JD? That's more important than whether "name matters." Depending on the career you want, the answer is, "yeah, maybe, but not necessarily."

What is the COA for UF? UF has crazy cheap in-state tuition which many people don’t know about if they’re not FL residents.lawschoolfl wrote:I need advice. In my opinion, FIU is not worth it, even for free.

In order to receive the best feedback in this forum, please provide as much of the following information in your original post as possible:
-The schools you are considering
-The total Cost of Attendance (COA) of each. COA = cost of tuition + fees + books + cost of living (COL) + accumulated interest - scholarships. Here is a helpful calculator.
-How you will be financing your COA, i.e. loans, family, or savings
-Where you are from and where you want to work, and other places where you have significant ties (if any)
-Your general career goals
-Your LSAT/GPA numbers
-How many times you have taken the LSAT

COA Would be ~70 total with current scholarship parents may help with livingforegetaboutdre wrote:What is the COA for UF? UM also offered a bit more than half tuition
FIU COA would be about ~20k for living
UF would probably be in range if ~70k for living and tuition

RETAKE! If Miami is your end goal, go UM but a few points more can get you a full ride there (though I don't think you should settle). UM can have great outcomes for some people like some friends of mine whose families are extremely well connected and who are at the top of their class, but the median outcome is not anything comparable to the results you could expect from median at a T13 (where you can DEFINITELY get a full ride on the lower end if you work for a 170+).
