Fordham put 40% of their class of 2016 at firms >100 lawyers according to their aba disclosures. Doesn't say which city but i assume a large portion is in nyc.

https://news.law.fordham.edu/blog/2017/ ... placement/ Fordham seems to be great. Read the article though and see for yourself; there are a couple of links that might help you find the answer you’re looking for.

Edit: links are in the article BTW

GULC is generally regarded as T14 though...I am more looking for schools in T50

Fordham is the only school that remotely matches your description. It has the highest placement in NYC Biglaw outside of the T14. Vandy also does fairly well in NYC.

Neither are great options if you exclusively want NYC Biglaw though. They're just marginally decent at placement in NYC relative to the T13 (or T14 if you want to include GULC).

There are many points that need to be made why you need to understand these statistics in context. First, 40% may seem like a sizable amount, and it's not an insignificant portion of the class, but that's without understanding a forced curve and the bunched nature of law school grading. Assuming you're right around median (which is the safest assumption), you have at best a coin flip chance of getting what you want.

You're not going to find a school outside of the T13 (or T14, although GULC probably shouldn't claim this level of placement) that makes NYC Biglaw a reasonable expectation for a run of the mill graduate. If you want to give yourself a strong chance of NYC Biglaw, Cornell should be your low target school.

If, however, you're ok with losing out on NYC Biglaw and just really want to practice in/around NY regardless of comp, then Fordham would be a fantastic option at the right cost.

I swear this exact topic comes up at least once a year with exactly the same title...

If your goal is biglaw, then the only schools with "great" placement are in the T13. Any schools outside that give you less than a 50/50 shot, which is only great if you're desperate to convince yourself that you're not rushing the decision to attend law school.

To echo what others have said, it seems like Fordham and Vandy have good NYC biglaw placement for being non-13 schools.

Not sure I'd call any school outside of the T13 "great" WRT NYC big law placement, though.

Fordham isn't too shabby, but definitely not great.
I wouldn't pay too much for it.

Vanderbilt, UT Austin, Notre Dame, Boston College, GW, Bringam Young, Emory, Fordham, WashU, ect. All have decent biglaw placement in New York, meaning that top third of the class is competitive. I wouldn’t call any of them outside of maybe Vandy “great.” The only schools with “great” biglaw placement are the T13, and Berkeley and Michigan are iffy.
