NYU (sticker) vs. Duke (scholly)

Post by stillswimming72 » Tue Aug 08, 2017 10:16 am

I am sitting with my stuff ready to move to Duke for law school. I paid my deposit and signed a lease for an apartment. I got a call from NYU telling me I'm off the waitlist and have been accepted. I am thrilled but don't know what to do. Duke gave me a generous scholarship and I'm all set to attend, but I really wanted to be in NYC for law school. Eventually, I want to work in the NY market after graduating. While I can cover the remaining cost of Duke so I can graduate without debt, I would have to take out loans for NYU.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

No brainer Duke, especially if you dont have to take out loans. Thats a win win. Plus Duke has one of the top 3 highest biglaw and fed clerk rates and places extremely well in NYC. Everyone I know who wanted NYC biglaw got it.

Yeah, Duke for sure. The only thing that would change things for you is a scholarship offer close to Duke's.

Duke. wanting to be in NYC for law school isn't a good reason to pay significantly more.

Duke can get you you nyc, and since you won't have to take out loans, go with duke. It's a great school!

Duke will get you NY biglaw. Also tuition aside, cost of living during law school will be WAY cheaper in Durham.

Just throwing another "Duke" out there in the hopes you don't make a terrible decision

Duke. It's awesome here. Jobs are plentiful, too. And NYC is a big destination. It's just as prestigious and has great weather.

Duke. If you moved to NYC for NYC you're dumb, OP.
