Guaranteed job - Attend UM or FIU
LSAT: 156
GPA: 3.2
Accepted at UM.
Waiting for response from FIU.
After doing a lot of reading, I realize the general consensus regarding UM is only attend with a lot of $$$, or don't attend at all.
However, I have a job lined up after law school. (Brother owns a firm)
If it comes down to attending UM at sticker, or attending FIU, what would you recommend? I live in Miami, so I do not need to rent an apartment. My brothers firm is also located in Miami, very close to UM.

If your job is 100% guaranteed no matter what then go to whichever one is cheapest.

I get that you already have a job (and lucky you, you already know that this is the area of law you want to practice in advance!), but what is that job going to pay? Unless your brother is offering to pay off your debt as a signing bonus, cost still matters.

We haven't necessarily talked much about pay, but he did say that he would like for me to take over the firm eventually. And after working at the firm for some months, I know it has a solid client base and brings in a substantial amount of revenue. But the thought of racking up 6 figures in debt still freaks me out.cavalier1138 wrote:I get that you already have a job (and lucky you, you already know that this is the area of law you want to practice in advance!), but what is that job going to pay? It should. What does he generally pay a new associate? And what does "eventually" mean? Unless your brother is substantially older than you are, it seems strange that he would be giving up his stake in this highly profitable firm early.Evan24 wrote:We haven't necessarily talked much about pay, but he did say that he would like for me to take over the firm eventually. Retake and go to either of those schools at a substantial scholarship. Even if your brother was going to make you an associate attorney with a starting salary of $100k (and if we're both being truthful, this is probably an unrealistic starting salary in the saturated Miami market), and even if you wouldn't have to pay for an apartment in Miami while in school, paying back all that loan money will be a total bitch. Not worth it when you can literally delay school by a year, retake, and go to one of these places for free or at least at a substantial discount.

If it's both at sticker, go to FIU. It's significantly cheaper.
