Re: Berkeley (sticker) vs UT Austin ($$)
Edit: did you apply really late? Or do you have some character and fitness issues?
The reason I ask is because I have seen URMs with your stats in at Harvard and big scholarships in the T14 this cycle. Something seems off

Definitely reapply on day one in October.

those numbers should get you some serious money from the lower T14. While UT is an excellent school, it won't travel as well into Calif BL as say, Michigan or Northwestern.
Alternatively, a letter of interest to to the SoCal schools should help on the WL front, but you really need other options to negotiate $$ with. Reapply is the correct response. And of course, a higher LSAT is always better and worth more money, so if you think you can score higher...

Definitely reapply early, you will have better options. Don't be paranoid that you won't get in again, see it as an opportunity to get money and other T14 acceptances.Gcl52 wrote:Thanks, I'm just so paranoid I won't be accepted again lol. Do you have any advice for reapplying? Should I retake/how should my application change?

Just came to say Character and Fitness issues generally range from speeding tickets to more serious criminal offenses. They can also include formal actions taken against you by an academic institution (alcohol citations are common) Each school lists which types of character and fitness issues they want you to disclose. You will have to pass a character and fitness examination for bar admission as well, so it is important to answer those application questions fully and honestly.

I've received one ticket in my life and I've never been even mildly in trouble with the law or my school so I'm pretty sure I'm all good on that front then. Thanks for the info!jumbocolumbo wrote:Just came to say Character and Fitness issues generally range from speeding tickets to more serious criminal offenses. For the love of God, do not take out 300k in loans for law school...that is LIFE RUINING DEBT. Retake.

Are you sure that you're actually considered URM or that you conveyed your URM status to all the schools you applied to?

How are you planning on paying back 300k when you get pushed out of big law after 2-3 years (most people burn out after a few years)? Also, since you're URM, I'm thinking you underperformed the cycle.

Your LSAT carries more weight. If I were you, I would blanket the T14 next cycle.Gcl52 wrote:I was shocked that I was admitted to Berkeley with my GPA, tbh. I know my recommendations were very strong and my major somewhat unique (Classics) and my LSAT solid but I was still surprised.Pomeranian wrote: Also, since you're URM, I'm thinking you underperformed the cycle.
I applied to only some of the warmer weather t14 just to see what would happen. I had zero interest in going to school somewhere cold. In retrospect, those schools could have been valuable for negotiation purposes. The fact that I was so clueless when I started the application cycle and that I applied later are inclining me towards reapplying.
