Kentucky is one of my top choices but I would like to know if anyone on this forum has any relevant information about the school. The references to UK on this site looks to be very minimal at best. Would you recommend attending (why/why not)?

Please keep in mind I am looking around the range of T2 schools.

Thanks!

Kentucky sent me a fee waiver, so I looked into them. Surprisingly good numbers when it comes to clerks, I don't know why. I think it's a place to go if you want to practice in Kentucky, obviously.

Did my undergrad at UK, what are you looking to find out about?

I have friends at Kentucky Law and they all really like it, but almost all of them have future plans to practice in Kentucky. If you have any reservations about practicing in KY, I would say that you need to think long and hard about a decision to come to UK (the big markets for UK grads are Louisville, Cincinnati/NKY, and Lexington).

The facilities aren't great. As it was posted in another thread, they are supposedly building a new law building (2012) but I've seen the way things work on campus, and I seriously doubt it will be done by then. Parking is alright, almost all law students have an opportunity to get a permit and drive to campus, or you can live around campus, but those neighborhoods tend to be loud and filled with undergrads (lots of off campus parties since it's a dry campus).

The town of Lexington is really cool, but it depends on what you're looking for. I found it to be a good blend of midwest/south. If you're from TN or GA or AL, you'll think Lexington is really yankee, but if you're from the north, you'll find it to be relatively southern. The bar scene is decent, and if you like sports, UK is great (football in the fall--tailgating is pretty good, basketball in the winter--can't be beat). Keeneland is also awesome, you'll love horses/horse racing by the time you leave Lex. If you have any questions, shoot me a PM, I'd be happy to answer or ask people I know at UK law.

Thank you [Jeeptiger09] for taking the time out to answer my question in a thoughtful manner.

I also just finished up undergrad at UK. I've lived there for 20 years, and was just accepted to UK Law although it's my safety school. I can answer any questions about Lexington in general or the UK campus, but I don't know too much about the law school experience. The building, as jeeptiger09 mentioned, is showing its age... yellowing fluorescent lights make the halls kind of gloomy and all. Also, 95% of graduates find employment in Kentucky. So if you love the state, go for it.

It's a good school, but Louisville is the city you'll want to live in in the long run, not Lexington.

This is not necessarily true. And even if you want to live in Louisville, you should still go to UK, because your job options will be better.

+1

And while fourth street, bardstown road and churchill are fun, I'd much rather live in Lex. But agreed, job prospect-wise, Louisville is much better.
