Hey All:

So my top three, are Pepperdine, Texas Tech, and UM (maybe) but I'd like some pics of the campus. I watched the video on their website and what I saw, albeit pretty looks rough.

Anyone?

Thanks!

I assume this isn't Michigan...if it's Miami, do yourself a favor and don't even bother applying there.

Affordable? Since when is $190k/3 years (including living expenses) affordable? The school has low standards, is overpriced, and offers poor job prospects. And, I assume you haven't heard about how many people they accepted this year--if you're willing to be a sucker and waste your money on that school, they'll accept you. Read this article...hopefully it'll give you a better idea of why you should avoid the school:

The Miami campus is NOT attractive. Yes, there are palm trees and fountains and all that (if you're in to that). However, it was built during the height of the Modernist architecture movement and, as such, is basically a 3 story indoor/outdoor concrete monstrosity with a (the redeeming quality) nice courtyard. Their moot courtroom sucked when I saw it; it's just a classroom with a podium in front. Their library is unattractive and nondescript.

Actually, the UM campus is a botanical garden. Like js mentioned, the modern buildings are clean and relatively nondescript, keeping the focus on the exotic greenery. This style is consistent throughout Coral Gables and Coconut Grove: clean lines, neutral colors, and lush greens. The city takes its aesthetics so seriously that they will only post street signs at traffic light intersections. Smaller intersections get corner stones, which is annoying and can make it difficult to find your way around at night.

My take on the law school:
I've only been here for a month, but so far I am very happy with the quality of education compared to what I think I would get at other T2s. My profs this semester are from Harvard, Notre Dame, Duke, and Chicago. Administration seems to be on top of its game. The new dean and her entourage have been visible and proactive; she had new initiatives for 1Ls under way before we even set foot on campus. This year's admissions debacle turned out a class of about 500, whereas normally they try to keep it around 400. I imagine they'll reign it in next year; if they do, it should work well in conjunction with the dean's goal to beef up the faculty.

Elements is a pointless class. It's absolutely ridiculous, the reading sucks, and I hate going. Word is that it will be phased out in the coming years.

The library is fine, although I prefer to do my studying outside of the law school. The undergrad library is next door and pretty sweet. Check out "the stacks" if you visit. The music library is on the other side of the law school; I hear it's fabulous and near vacant.

I've heard mixed reviews about the Career Development Center. OTOH, has anyone heard overwhemingly positive reviews about any school's CDC? My take is that everyone outside of the T6 really has to work it and should not be leaning on their CDC.

The cost of attendance at Miami is less than Pepperdine. We send a chunk of grads to cali every year and have a much greater national reach than our ranking would suggest. I don't know enough about pepperdine or ttech to offer any comparison; you'll have to research that on your own.

coolkatz and i have been at odds re:miami for some time. i'll leave it at that.

Hope this is helpful! If you have any questions, feel free to send a pm.
