lishi, I can't make the open house, but I'll be there Thursday and Friday. What do you recommend I do/see?

I would say do a tour, which I'm sure they will give you, and stop in on a class. What I would do when I visited a place would be to sit down in a spot where there seems to be a lot of traffic and just eavesdrop on people's conversation. I mean it's probably not the most polite thing to do, but I found that it gave me an idea of the type of students at the school and sometimes you get some good tidbits about the school as well.

If anyone wants to see what a typical one-bedroom place in Winston looks like, I'd be more than willing to give you TLSers a brief tour of mine! It would give me an excuse to clean. :D

What are the name of some good apartments? I have been told Deacon's Ridge and the Crowne's, any other places I should check out?

Those are the big ones. Over half of the 1L class live in one of the 3 Crownes (http://www.crownepartners.com/), and then a good number live in Deacon Ridge. A few students live at The Corners at Crystal Lake because it is cheaper than the Crownes, but I feel that the Crowne complexes give you the best bang for your buck.

There are houses to rent, but all of the apartments around here allow pets, so you shouldn't have a problem either way.

Yea I am going to have to check them all out. I am thinking about living by myself first year, but it might be too expensive that way. Hopefully I find some roomates this weekend or on the housing weekend.

I was unable to attend today as I received acceptance on Friday (too late to book a flight). I am interested to hear everyone's perspective / impression ... how did the day go?

I liked it. The campus is very beautiful and the buildings are nice. All law classes are in one building that has its own library. We had lunch with professors who were very helpful. My professor stressed the fact that they have great connections with the major legal markets and are great with assisting students get jobs/internships. The small class size was emphasized a good deal and they seem really nice and genuinely helpful.

I totally agree, I wish I had more time when I checked out the campus. Lishi - how do you, personally, feel about the job prospects? Where are you looking to practice?

I mean of course it's gong to be harder to find a job because of the economy, and blah blah blah.

But in general I think the job prospects here are good. I didn't do OCI and sent my resumes out on my own to firms in California. I got some responses and interviews, but working in Ca this summer just wasn't really feasible for me. I just have too much going on to be flying out to California. But I'm working with a judge in Philadelphia for the first six weeks and then going to study abroad with Wake in Venice for the last six weeks.

Looking at people in my classes, most people that I have talked to have jobs or plans lined up. I know people that got jobs through OCIs at good firms in NC and outside of the state, people doing judge internships in different states, some working for professors, some working for public interest groups across the country. All in all I think our 1L class did really well.

Do I think people at Duke have better and more jobs than us?? OF COURSE! But I haven't really seen what many people on this site talk about. How people at T1 that aren't ranked from 1-20 will never find jobs. I'm not really worried that I won't find a job when I graduate, because I don't think it will be that difficult. But I do worry that it may be harder for me to find a job in California, which is what I'm most leaning towards now. But that is obviously to be expected, and I feel comfortable that if I don't get a job directly out of school in California, that I can work a couple years on the East Coast before transferring out there.

I hope that answered your question because I feel like I began to ramble, and then ended shortly to go make my sausage sandwich.

I was also at the ASD and thought the campus was nice ( even though it was raining) and the emphasis on the small class size really made it appealing. Also, the students were a little informal but i thought it really showed how close everyone was.

I dont think you would have any problems finding a job, I have worked in the legal department of a global company for 7 years and know a lot of lawyers in RTP and Raleigh that graduated from Wake. And one of the panelist talked about a summer job at a law firm that my step father is a partner at and everyone there also loves wake alum.
