Just got DR a few minutes ago, ED FT

I know at least some 12/15 DR rejection emails have already gone out so I'm hoping they'll get it all done real soon (and that I won't be one of them!)

Did it say a select group within the preferred waitlist?

REJECTED. DR 12/14/09, PT, GOT EMAIL TODAY 4PM EASTERN:

After careful consideration of your file, the Committee on Admissions is unable to approve your application for admission to the Law Center for the Fall of 2010.

Last year, we received almost 12,000 applications for the 575 places available in our first year class, and each year the quality of our applicant pool continues to increase. Consequently, the Committee must make the difficult decision of turning down many well-qualified candidates who have the potential for success in a law program.

We appreciate your interest in Georgetown and wish you success in attaining your academic goals.

Sincerely,

Andrew P. Cornblatt
Dean of Admissions
Associate Vice President for Graduate Admission

No select group. Here's the email:

Thank you for applying to Georgetown University Law Center through the Early Decision Program. The Committee on Admissions has reviewed your application and has placed your name on our Preferred Waiting List.

Each year a large number of candidates submit early applications to Georgetown; by the end of this year's early process we will have received more than 4,000 applications. The high quality of this group makes the Committee's decisions extremely difficult. Applicants on the Preferred Waiting List are among those we would like to include in our first year class. These applicants have the strongest credentials of all waiting list candidates and, as a result, receive priority consideration if spaces become available. Although the number varies from year to year, typically fifty spaces open for waiting list candidates, some as late as registration day. Please be advised that applicants on the Preferred Waiting List are not ranked. In addition, please note that you will not be bound by the Early Decision agreement if you are admitted to Georgetown through our Regular Decision process.

We realize that your circumstances may change in the coming months. An e-mail will be sent to you in May asking you to reconfirm your interest and update your contact information. Meanwhile, please update us on any approaching deadlines you may be facing. If you do not wish to have your application remain under consideration, please send us an e-mail at admis@law.georgetown.edu. On behalf of the Committee, we appreciate your patience and continued interest in Georgetown.

So does this mean people aren't getting deferred for reconsideration with the RD people? Has anyone gotten a deferral email?

Anyone else DR 12/15 who still did not get an email yet? Should I take this as a good sign or do folks think they probably just didn't finish all the rejections/WL emails today?

I'm not, still under review. The date changed to 12/15 though.

Does anyone know what the difference is between being deferred and wait listed? Is Georgetown just letting me down gently or should I hold out hope?

I realize I should probably be more specific. I know what each means, but I guess I'm asking if one means a better chance of acceptance down the line.

I think it all depends on which waitlist... You still have a good chance of being accepted (or put on a waitlist) if you're deferred. I would stay hopeful.

Got in! I love you, one-day turnaround mail! (I'm in DC) Good luck larkin, I'd venture a guess that yours is on its way.

The date was 12/15 and I'm in Ohio actually. It came in today around noon (we get early mail delivery) I thought they'd send it to my DC address, but they sent it home!

Good luck!!
