Post subject: How does this recession compare to prev. ones for new grads?

I read in Business Week that 3/4 of the graduating class of Northwestern had their job offers deferred. It seems rather extreme and was wondering how this recession compared to previous ones? When will there be a recovery? What areas of the law are affected? (IP less than tax? big firms only?) Any data?

You have to cite articles when talking about a stat this ridiculous.

And notice the search feature on TLS. There is no shortage of economy threads on here.

I'm guessing that NW's career services director knows more than some Internet tough guy.

Cover story from October: http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/co ... page_2.htm

Blog discussing the stat: http://www.businessweek.com/bschools/bl ... rs_at.html

Seriously, just f**k off with the ego trip. You picked a career that consistently produces more supply than demand. Congratulations.

I never disputed the accuracy of the stat. (I did imply that it is absurd - could easily be absurd AND true - but I don't know NU's placement stats any better than the next guy.) I said you need to cite articles you mention in your post as a courtesy to others who may not believe a statistic that's so incredible.

And there are plenty of economy threads this could be posted in. OP's questions are hardly unique.

I guess its good to seek out information, but I'm not sure those questions are best answered on TLS.

ps - If anyone knows the answer to the second question, you could make some good money off that knowledge.

To another 1L condescension fail? Hardly.

Anyone who considers a statistic like that to be "absurd" or "ridiculous" is wildly out of touch with reality.

The second Ben Bernanke considers unemployment a bigger problem than price stability?

Hahaha, holy shit dude. That was intense, unnecessary, and actually kind of confusing. How did you manage to get so pissed about that? You might have some issues to sort out.

Motherfuckers need to stop being unemployed so they can go back to giving me money.

Any statistic without evidence can be considered absurd or ridiculous. Are you really this intent on failing?

I can't even remember who posted it. And your sentence doesn't make sense.

Google (with the quotes) "in being dumb shocker" - "in lying shocker" - "in truth shocker" .... or any number of permutations and you'll find that it's a phrase you must not have come across.

I guess that's my PSA for the day - a linguistics lesson. Good luck with your transfer apps bro.

Wow, you're going to go far here. We love knee-jerk reactions from the thin-skinned.

I didn't know you were at SMU. How did you like your first semester? My mom's boss really tried to get me to go to SMU, and I looked into it for a while. I have heard really good things about your law school.

First semester went well, I think. I liked the smaller school. And we had (mostly) great profs thus far. We'll see how good the law school is when it comes time for me to find a job. Right now, tracking roughly at 5% being predicted to get a 1L summer gig. How's that figure at UT? Higher I hope.
