our school has decided to post our grades earlier this year. I remember I got an email saying that as long as we complete the course evaluations we will know the grades as soon as they are posted, and this can be as early as jan 1. (anyway, I got my earliest grade back in november... not a big deal because it was an independent research project ,and my advisor told me that i am going to get a 'top' grade. he's probably nice, easy-going and does not want me to stress over ....although because of his encouragement I sent my work to a major specialty journal and got it accepted for publication before december.)

Grades are supposed to start trickling in the first full week in January. I hate waiting for grades, although at least it's not as anxiety-producing as 1L year.

Ah, course evaluations ... and what a pleasure they were ... I just finished mine today!

haha .... but sometimes, or most often, you need to wait till the grades have come out to gain a certain 'perspective' ...

I hate you. ;)

What class? (Obvi. not going to ask what grade)

UT: Grades are due by January 22. We get them as they trickle in. I'm in OperaAttorney's section, and we got our civil procedure grade on December 21. It was a multiple-choice exam.

That class was a five-credit course, so it was very important for our GPAs.

Are there any schools that let you evaluate after grades?

Tell me about it! If I ever find out a prof gives only M/C exams, I will run in the other direction.

We were told we would have our LRAW grade back by Christmas and the remainder of grades by the time we go back. LRAW grades are not in yet, though.

At St. John's we got our LRW grade back today. From what I hear, I expect the rest of our grades to be in by mid-january.

Thanks for the kind words, Opera. I feel awkward talking about grades. I really don't know what the protocol is, and I don't want to be a douchebag about it. Honestly, though, I expected the A+ to go to Sean, Sydney, or Andrew... perhaps Mike.

Are you still in Austin? Or did you go home for the holidays? Have a nice Christmas.

You didn't have to confirm my suspicion, JazzOne  hahahaha.

I don't think people agree on a specific protocol. Some people discuss their grades. Others don't. It depends on the individual. I never discussed grades in undergrad and don't intend to change my MO--not even with my study group.

I left Austin on Sunday. I'll return the day before classes start. Merry Xmas to you too.

I was thinking maybe there would be a pattern - schools that place a low emphasis on grades giving them out later, or schools that can't compete well on name alone giving them out earlier, but it all seems pretty random.

I do wish we had the rolling in system. I'm not sure why most schools wouldn't do it that way, other than that it's probably more work for the registrar.

I didn't realize you were asking about rolling grades before. Mercer's grades roll in, and the deadline is January 15.

Duke's grades are due by Jan 25 and then are reported all at the same time sometime between Jan 25 - Feb 2.

Never mind that 1L spring OCI bidding on firms that have grade cutoffs is from Jan 14-20. I don't see a problem there - do you?

Supposedly, we're going to get our grades back at Chicago by the end of the second week of the winter term; so, Jan. 15.

I really, really doubt that is going to happen, though.

it seems to me that schools would be in no hurry to release grades, especially spring semester. if you don't have grades, it would be difficult for people to transfer out, or to even attempt to. you might be able to get a deadline extension from some schools on that but still its inconvenient for you and for the school. now, many of the schools here are ones that very few in their right minds would transfer from, but I do have friends at a couple t4 schools and they swore that was pretty much school policy.

also, at that same t4 school, it was pretty common knowledge that the professors finished grades quickly. I know people who took december exams and got notified before they left for christmas break that they failed. professors even said they were done grading exams quickly but the school policy was to wait until an unknown date to release grades. the date was pretty much whenever in the hell they wanted to.

it pains me to see that. i don't have as much of an aversion to t4 schools on tls as most others, but i do think its really sad that people who go to law school who really academically aren't able to keep up with the work. its not for everyone. i would like to think that i can pull it off. i saw some of my dumb ass friends try to study for law school exams the same way they did for college exams. ugh!
