Hi everyone, new to the forum and just have a quick question I was hoping someone might be able to answer. First off, my GPA is poor, 2.8, but I expect my LSAT to be in the 170-175 range. I am counting on my personal statement to have a signifigant impact on my admission chances. My PS chronicles my 5 year battle with alchohol (drinking alone every day, not the typical undergrad partying), the myriad grand-mal seizures that accompanied my struggle, my inablitly to function, ie. hold a job, perform well in school. The focus of the PS is the day I came to from a seizure in a pool of blood and decided I could not live this way, and went and got help. I moved to a state where I had no family and friends, got a job stocking shelves at a supermarket, and started life over. I have now been promoted twice in that job and have two years of sobriety. I discuss my new outlook on life, my new definition of success and happiness, how they have been formed, and how they will help me in law school.

if written well, can a PS such as this potentially be my "in" to a school that numbers alone might suggest I have very slim shot?

I appreciate any advice and thanks in advance.

first off, congrats for turning your life around. good for you. i'm sure it was a hell of a battle.

unfortunately, i dont think this PS will get you an "in" at schools where you have a slim shot. however, it can help you at schools where your numbers are a little below the median. so if you have a 10% chance of getting in, no, an amazing PS won't do you enough good. but 30% maybe you have a better chance.

good luck to you! try to target schools that weigh softs a little more.
