Because its hot.

Exactly which means beaches, swimming, shorts and t-shirts all day, every outdoor sport, convertibles, etc... You can't do any of that in the snow (well I guess you could but it wouldn't be the most enjoyable experience)

I enjoy virtually none of those things year round. I want them contained to specific times of the year.

+ 1, I love outdoor activities that require warm weather, but I also love skiing and snow, it is good to have both. I always get sick of summer just in time for fall/winter, and sick of winter just in time for spring/summer.

Its too bright. I like overcast weather.

Sunny is nice and all, but its best after a long winter. I enjoy it for a week, then I'm bored.

Weather is a huge factor for me....anything lower than 40 degrees is horrible to me...can't play basketball/run outside, need layers of clothing, driving is crazy, depressing....overall I can't understand how anyone would enjoy snow over California/Florida weather. I am going crazy with this Texas winter right now which is ranging from 35-50 degrees haha

Give me 80-100 degrees with low humidity and I am happy. Oh well, looks like I won't be applying to Michigan and Cornell anytime soon haha

You can totally run in any weather as long as you have the right clothing, basketball would be tough in the snow though, but basketball should be played indoors anyway.

I agree with you...my point is that every simple activity turns into a hassle when the weather is cold. For example, here in Houston the recent weather (which is laughable compared to the NE) has negatively affected everything. I went to one of the more popular clubs last Saturday only to find the place half empty due to a cold and wet night. There are more car wrecks, people seem less willing to go out and do stuff, and there is just an overall daze. Idk maybe this sounds crazy but it is very noticeable to me. I enjoy cold weather around Christmas time but I can't fathom having cold weather 1/4 of the year...props to whoever actually enjoys that finds it fun

Is it just me or does good weather put you in a good mood? Nothing better than waking up to a sunny day without a cloud in the sky.

This is clearly a discussion of opinions, but I'm with you-- or at least I think I am. I grew up in MN and have lived in the Northeast since I went off to college. I definitely know that winter is my least favorite season and summer is my favorite, for the reasons you've mentioned. But I've also never lived anywhere warm, so I'm always wondering whether it really would be as great as I imagine year round...

If I could conceivably live in the cloudiest, rainiest, coldest part of the country, I would be exceptionally happy.

Here a bit north of Dallas, almost all of October was gray skies, clouds and drizzle. I got progressively happier each day it persisted.

You would probably like Forks, WA.

I would have until those goddamn books came out.

If I want hordes of screaming teenage girls, Dallas has plenty of malls.

Damn Dwaterman, I won't bitch about the weather here in Boston (high of 20 today).

But in seriousness, weather may be a very very very minor part of my decision making, but no way in hell would I turn down Harvard/Columbia/Chicago due to weather.

I just want you to know, there was a high of 80 today. My air conditioning bill is going to kill me.

I would kill myself if I lived in a place that was 80 at Christmas.

I live in Florida and I desperately want to escape the unbearable heat and humidity. All the schools I applied to (sans Duke) are up north; I miss seasons and snow. Florida is insufferable, although many people would disagree with me.

I always got the impression that North Carolina was temperate (not too hot, not too cold?) I went there this summer and the weather was beautiful.

On a side-note: Christmas with snow is nice when you're 2-12 years old, but after a while, shoveling destroys any excitement that comes with snow/frigid cold.

Yeah, snow may not be nice to you after however long you've lived with it, but after you've spent 30 years in a place where summer lasts about 5-8 months, and the question isn't if the temperature will reach 100, but instead how many days out of the summer will it be over 100 with 90%+ humidity, a mountain of snow seems pretty damn nice.

I grew up in the midwest and I now live in the southeast. I miss seasons. I am looking forward to going back up north. In fact, UVA, Emory, and Vandy are the only schools I applied to in the south, while I applied to probably 20 schools in the midwest and northeast.

Only 5 - 8 months? You must live in the northern part of the state.

The credited response.

For me, personally, I enjoy having all four seasons, it provides variety and is generally what I'm used to, but I don't fundamentally have anything against living someplace where it's warm for most of the year either. I can adapt to pretty much any climate (unless it's 100+ degrees there year-round).

I live in NC and it snowed a ton here today, and it is still coming down. It is rare, though.

About 30 miles north of Dallas. Enough to get teased by the possibility of a real winter, only to be crushed like a person standing in the way of Rosie O'Donnell and the buffet.

You may want to rethink Colorado if you're looking for lots of clouds-- it gets quite a bit of sun. Very few days of rain. You get the fun combo of snow on the ground and not a cloud in the sky...

Yeah, but I get butt-ass cold weather and a ton of snow.

I think the hard factors should be cost/debt and job prospects. Weather should be a soft factor, but as cold as I am lately, I'm starting to wonder if I really need a job.

It's a factor for me. I loathe winter with a passion. Not good for someone from Chicago...
I actually have a theory that humans weren't meant to live this far north.

That's why I'm annoyed at the relative dearth of warm-weather schools in the T14.
